50 Chinese ships swarm close to Ayungin Shoal. An American marine security analyst reported seeing over 50 Chinese warships close to Ayungin Shoal before the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) rotated and resupplied to BRP Sierra Madre. Former US Air Force official and former Defense Attaché Ray Powell stated last Thursday on X (formerly Twitter) that there are more Chinese vessels in Mischief Reef or Panganiban Reef than there were a week before. Teodoro orders the AFP's counterintelligence squad to be reactivated. In an effort to defend the armed forces against espionage, sabotage, and other intelligence operations, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) formally reactivated its counterintelligence group (CIG) on Thursday. At the counterintelligence group's reactivation ceremony at Camp Aguinaldo, AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. led the group. "The security of our dear country depends on the capable shoulders of the courageous men and women of the AFP-CIG," Brawner wrote in his statement. He added, "Your unwavering efforts will ensnare any threats and guarantee the safety of our treasured citizens," hoping that the counterintelligence unit would "ascend to unimaginable heights" in order to protect the nation's rights and liberties.
